Freight insurance

Insurance is crucial in the transport of goods because of the  exposure to risks. The transport or freight insurance is a contract in which the risks covered, fixed compensation and reparation are stated.

However, the transporter’s insurance is specified by different regulations depending on the means of transport. Compensation is limited by the weight and value of the goods and is only granted if the transporter was unable to avoid responsibility.

The insurance invoice is required for customs clearance only when the relevant data do not appear in the commercial invoice. The different types of freight insurance are divided according to  the mode of transport:

Road freight
The rail carrier
The shipping company
The air carrier
