Case Study of Zambian Honey Exports published

4/12/2010

Open Trade Gate Sweden, together with two experts from the National Board of Trade, made a field trip to Zambia 14-20 September 2009 to conduct a case study of the Zambian honey export sector. The study aimed at mapping the whole distribution chain, from beekeeper to end consumer in the EU, and identify possibilities as well as bottlenecks along this chain. The project was a cooperation between Open Trade Gate Sweden, the National Board of Trade, Zambian Development Agency, the Ministry for Commerce Trade and Industry and the two countries Embassies.

The study points at both opportunities in the honey export sector, in particular for organic honey, as well as obstacles to exports to the EU, such as limited domestic production capacity and high transport costs.
