Two Export to Sweden-seminars held in Ecuador

Open Trade Gate Sweden carried out two Export to Sweden seminars in Quito (March 9) and Guayaquil (March 11). Both seminars were implemented in co-operation with the Commercial Section of the Embassy of Ecuador in Stockholm as well as with the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Integration (Ministerio de Relaciones, Exteriores, Commercio e Integración).

The seminars were hosted by Mr. Ambassador Fernando Flores and in Quito the Swedish Embassy was represented by Honorary Consul Dr. Galo Abril Ojeda, who contributed with his experience from Sweden and his expertise in trade-related issues. In Guayaquil, Ms. Eliana Larrea, Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, opened the seminar. Other speakers at both seminars included, apart from Open Trade Gate Sweden, Mr. José Eljuri the Commercial Attaché of Ecuador in Stockholm, Mr. Enrique Cárdenas, Fairtrade Labelling Organisation and Mr. Carlos Pozo, at the Ecuadorian chocolate producer Kallari.

The objective of the seminars for Open Trade Gate Sweden was to present Sweden as a market for Ecuadorian exporters and to provide information on rules and regulations for trade with Sweden and the European Union. All in all the seminars attracted approximately 150 visiting companies and organisations active in industries such as tropical fruits, vegetables, sea food and cut flowers to name a few. 

Apart from the seminars, Open Trade Gate also attended a round-table discussion hosted by the Nordic Ecuadorian Chamber of Commerce. The meeting was attended by companies that participated in the Export to Sweden seminars held in Ecuador in 2008.

Open Trade Gate Sweden visited several companies and organisations during the stay in Ecuador, among them a broccoli producer, a cocoa producer and a rose farm.
